Lublin Studies in Modern Languages and Literature

“Translating Emotions”

 Special Issue of

“Lublin Studies in Modern Languages and Literature”

For the 44th issue (March, 2020) of the scientific journal “Lublin Studies in Modern Languages and Literatures” (http://www.lsmll.umcs.lublin.pl/), the editors invite scholars to reflect on and submit papers on translating emotions. While traditionally failing under the scope of psychology, emotions represent nowadays a recurrent topic in studies which are relevant for various other fields of humanities, their connection to language in general and to individual languages, in particular, being often approached from an interdisciplinary standpoint (we cite, from the numerous references on the topic, the collective volume L’expression des sentiments : de l’analyse linguistique aux applications, edited by R. Nita et F. Valetopoulos, 2018, Presses Universitaires de Rennes).

Translation may be understood, largo sensu, as the connection between language and emotions, as it results from the variety of discourses specific to each communication context. In the strict sense of the term, translation may focus, on the one hand, on the impact of emotions on the act of translating (written/ spoken translation) and, on the other, on the linguistic and cultural peculiarities of translating emotions from the source language to the target one, analyzed within Translation Studies.

The papers, written in English or in French, will follow the instructions for authors  mentioned under http://www.lsmll.umcs.lublin.pl/index.php?id=info&chosen_lang=fr , and will be sent before September, 30, 2019 to both coordinators of this special issue:
