-----------------------------

The Faculty of Arts of KU Leuven seeks to fill a full-time tenure-track position in French literature. We seek applications from internationally oriented candidates with outstanding didactic skills, an excellent track record in research, and native or near-native knowledge of French. The appointment is expected to begin on October 1, 2020.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach, perform research, and engage in an appropriate amount of service in the Research Group ‘French, Italian, and Spanish Literature’ and in the Department of Literary Studies. Taking into account the nature of the courses to be taught and the candidate’s potential employability in other programmes, we especially invite applications from candidates with a historical profile. Expertise in literary theory, comparative literature and/or translation studies will be considered an asset.

The successful candidate will develop a coherent research programme attuned to the research traditions of the Department of Literary Studies within the time frame of the tenure-track appointment (5 years). He/She will seek out competitive funding and actively participate in the development of future research projects. The recruitment and supervision of doctoral students are equally part of the research assignment.

The courses to be taught are part of the Bachelor and Master degrees in Linguistics and Literature, the Master degree in Western Literature and postgraduate programmes offered at the campuses of Leuven and/or Kortrijk (Courtrai). The language of instruction for all these courses is French. This list of courses will be supplemented with courses that correspond to the candidate’s specific competences, and which may be taught in Dutch or English.

At present, the list of courses is as follows:
VOAF1A – Littérature française II: littérature classique
F0AF1A – Littérature française II: littérature classique
F0AF3A – Littérature française III: 16e-18e siècles
F0UZ5A – Littérature française: littérature classique

The candidate will be asked to assume internal managerial, organisational, and administrative duties at the campuses of Leuven and Kortrijk, to actively contribute to the research fields and the programmes in which he/she participates, as well as to the strengthening of the ties between the programme and the professional field.
