CALL FOR PAPERS

O EIXO E A RODA: REVISTA DE LITERATURA BRASILEIRA

Taste, memory, and writing

This volume aims at gathering texts which result from interdisciplinary studies that explore the axis “Literature and Food” as the base for a critical and theoretical reflection. If it has been for a long time that literature writes a kind of gastronomy biography, and that food gives the power to read men and their culture in which way Brazilian writers take taste and memory as devices capable of broadening the understanding of past and present experiences? What about the conviviality around the table, kitchen, and domestic spaces, and the gestures involving the production, circulation, and consumption of food in several instances of national culture are they problematized and presented in fiction and poetry? To add to the vigorous cast of classical widespread references in The Epic of Gilgamês, in The Odyssey, in The Bible, in A Thousand and One Nights, in Proust’s Recherche, and in The Cities and the Mountains of Eça de Queirós we inquire how the works of several Brazilian authors intercept and problematize the place of food in culture, and as in Rilke’s verse intertextually remembered by the poet Adília Lopes in “make the orange dance”.

Submission deadline: September 1st 2018.
