2-3 Assistantships (40-80% appointment) in the SNF-funded Research Project “Online Edition of the Reviews and Letters by Albrecht von Haller” (Berne, Suisse)

As of May 1, 2019, two to three positions as assistants (40-80% appointment) for the duration of up to five years are offered at the University of Bern in the SNF-funded research project 10FE15_157963: “Online Edition of the Reviews and Letters by Albrecht von Haller. Expertise and Communication in the Emerging Scientific Community”.

As an interdisciplinary research project, these assistantships are associated with the Department of History (Prof. André Holenstein), the Department of Medical History (Prof. Hubert Steinke) and the Department of German Studies (Prof. Oliver Lubrich) at the University of Bern in cooperation with the Burgerbibliothek and the Albrecht von Haller Foundation of the Burgergemeinde Bern.

The employment in the edition project includes primarily the transliteration and transcription of handwritten letters from and to Albrecht von Haller and their annotation and commentation. In addition, Haller's around 9000 reviews from the “Göttingische Gelehrte Anzeigen” will be edited in the project. Good language skills in German, French and Latin are required, the excellent command of one of these languages is of essence. In addition, good handwriting reading skills as well as experience with or at least a strong interest in editorial and philological questions and methods are required.

The salary is determined according to SNF specifications. In addition to the employment there is the possibility for further academic qualification in the disciplines History, History of Medicine or German Studies/Comparative Literature according to the participating departments and possible supervisors.
